What Your Child Will Learn in 4th Grade
This year, your child will continue to grow as a student. Here is a simple overview of what to expect in 4th grade.
Student Expectations:
We expect students to be respectful, responsible, and polite to everyone. They should also clean out their school folders two times a week for important papers. For gym and dance, they should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers.
Math:
Your child will learn more about multiplication and division. We will also study fractions, place value, and how to measure things. Students will also learn about angles and the properties of shapes. They will have a test at the end of each math unit.
Writing:
In writing, students will focus on telling personal stories, writing with facts, and sharing their opinions. We use a grading scale from 1 to 4. Your child will take a writing test at the start and end of each unit to see their progress.
Reading:
We will work on a variety of reading skills to help your child better understand books. This includes understanding the main idea of a story, putting events in order (sequence), and being able to summarize what they read. We will also focus on understanding the cause and effect of events and drawing conclusions.
