STEAM

Here at P.S. 86K the children are involved in the STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Students engage in science experiments that tie into reading, writing, and math by following the NYC Scope and Sequence.  Students engage in problem-solving that relates to the world around them.  

 

Students also have the privilege of being a part of the Sustainability Team.  Students are holding the school accountable for the new citywide initiative for recycling, reducing, and reusing products.  

 

Each year students in grades 3-5 participate in a Science Fair where they develop and create their own projects.  Awards are presented to the students who successfully follow the scientific process throughout their experiment.  

 

At P.S. 86K we try to emphasize the importance of science in our everyday life, making connections to the world they will be on their way to a successful future as a scientist or any other career they desire.
