Science and STEAM
At P.S. 86K, our STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) brings learning to life. Following the NYC Scope and Sequence, students participate in hands-on experiments that connect science to reading, writing, and math. Our goal is to help children become great problem-solvers who understand the world around them.

- Hydroponics Clubs: Students in Grades 1 and 4 can join our Hydroponics Lunch Club or our Afterschool Club, where they learn to grow plants using modern technology.
- Sustainability Team: Our student leaders help the school follow citywide rules for recycling, reducing, and reusing.

- STEAM Fair: Each year, students in Grades 3–5 create original projects for our STEAM Fair. Awards are given to students who successfully follow the scientific method.
- NYS Exam Prep: Our teachers work closely with students to ensure they are fully prepared and confident for the 5th Grade NYS Science Exam.
