What Your Child Will Learn in Kindergarten

 

This year, your child will begin their journey as a student. Here is a simple guide to what they'll be learning.

 

Reading and Writing

Getting Ready to Read: We will learn all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make. Your child will also learn how to hold a book and will practice reading words.

Beginning to Write: Students will learn how to write their name and will start writing simple words. They'll also practice telling stories through drawing and writing.

 

Math

Counting and Numbers: We will learn to count to 100 and work with numbers up to 20. Your child will also learn how to add and subtract small numbers.

Shapes and Measurement: Students will learn the names of basic shapes and will begin to measure and compare objects.

 

Social-Emotional Learning

Learning to Share and Play: A big part of kindergarten is learning how to be a good friend. Your child will practice sharing, listening to others, and following rules. We will also learn how to be a respectful member of our school community.
