1st Grade

What Your Child Will Learn in 1st Grade:

Reading and Writing

Reading: Your child will learn to find the main idea of a story and understand why an author wrote it. They will also practice understanding what a story means even when it doesn't say it directly.

Writing: We will work on writing different kinds of stories. Your child will write stories about themselves, papers with their opinion, and papers with facts.

Math and Science

Math: Your child will learn how to add and subtract numbers up to 20 and count all the way up to 99. We will also learn about measuring things, telling time, and shapes.

Science: We will explore how animals and plants stay alive, what the sun, moon, and stars are, and how light and sound work.

Social Studies

Social Studies: We will learn about families, both today and long ago. Your child will also learn about their own community.
