3rd Grade
What Your Child Will Learn in 3rd Grade
Guidelines for Success
We ask that students come to school on time and ready to learn. This means they should follow classroom rules, ask questions, and finish their homework.
Reading
Your child should read books at their reading level for at least 20 minutes every night. A leveled book is one they can read and understand on their own. We expect students to reach a reading level of P or Q by the end of the school year.
Writing
Students will learn to write good paragraphs and essays. They should already know how to write a full sentence and use punctuation. They will use a writing process to plan, write, and fix their work. Your child will write personal stories, essays about a country, and papers with their opinion on a topic.
Math
Students should know their basic math facts for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. We will teach them how to solve word problems using different methods. Topics this year include: multiplication, division, fractions, and telling time. They will also learn about area and perimeter.
