Dear Families,
This fall, NYC Reads invites families to “be on the same page” about what your child is learning in reading this year, and how you can support that learning at home.
NYC Reads is a citywide effort working toward one shared goal: every NYC student becoming a thriving reader and writer. Families are an essential part of getting there. When schools, libraries, community organizations, and families work together, your child has stronger support wherever they are learning.
See what your child is learning
Use the NYC Reads Curriculum Finder* to see what your child is learning in literacy throughout the year. Knowing what they are learning can help you start conversations, find books about the same topics, and connect what they are learning at school to everyday life. On the back of this page, you’ll find a quick guide to using the Finder. *The information in the Curriculum Finder is available for schools participating in NYC Reads. Reach out to your child’s teacher or school, if you have questions.
You don’t need to be a reading expert to support your child. Talking, reading, asking questions, and exploring ideas together all help!
How to use the Curriculum Finder:
1. Access the Curriculum Finder: https://nyc-reads-curriculum-finder.vercel.app/
2. Enter your child’s district, school, grade level, and the date
3. View the curriculum and current module, essential questions, and book lists curated by the NYCPS Office of Library Services. Come back throughout the year as topics change!
4. Use the essential questions and book list to talk, read, and build knowledge together at home. Use the Citywide Digital Library on the Sora App to get FREE access to books from the book list to continue learning at bedtime.
