April 2026: What’s Happening in NYC Public Schools

Summer Rising Results

Beginning Tuesday, April 21, families who submitted Summer Rising applications by the March 27 deadline can log in to MySchools.nyc to view their results. Summer Rising seats are limited—please only accept your child’s offer if your child will attend most of their scheduled program. Research shows that the more students show up, the better prepared they'll be to succeed in math and reading in the fall.

The last day to accept or decline Summer Rising offers is Tuesday, May 5—if accepting, make sure you answer any required questions to ensure your child’s seat! Summer Rising placements will not be confirmed unless families accept their offer by the deadline; your child will not be automatically enrolled. Accepting an offer will not affect your child’s chances of getting a waitlist offer at a later date.

Key Admissions Dates

Upper Grade Gifted and Talented (G&T) Application Opens April 20

G&T programs offer accelerated instruction to eligible elementary school students in the City. If your child will be in grades 1, 2, 3 or 4 during the 2026–27 school year and meets report card grade requirements, they can participate in fall 2026 G&T admissions via MySchools.nyc. Families of eligible students will receive an email and/or mailed letter inviting them to apply for G&T. Applications close Friday, May 8. Learn more at schools.nyc.gov/GT and verify your contact information at MySchools.nyc.

Kindergarten and Middle School Offers

  • If you applied to kindergarten for fall 2026 by the deadline on January 23, 2026, you will receive your child’s kindergarten offer on March 31, 2026. Families must accept their offers by May 1 to secure their seat for the fall.
  • If you applied to middle school for fall 2026 by the deadline on December 12, 2025, you will receive your child’s middle school offer on April 15, 2026.

You will receive an email with information on next steps when the offer and any waitlists your child is on (if applicable) are available on MySchools. Learn how offers are made at schools.nyc.gov/MS and schools.gov/K.

2026 NYC School Survey

The deadline to complete the NYC School Survey has been extended to April 17, 2026! NYCPS families and students in grades 6–12 can share direct, confidential feedback that helps us improve our schools for next year and beyond. Submit your survey today by mail or online in one of 13 available languages at NYCSchoolSurvey.org.

New Automated Language Assistant

Communicating with your child’s school just got easier! All NYCPS staff members now have access to Hello!, a digital tool supporting real-time, automated translation and interpretation during day-to-day conversations in the top non-English languages spoken by NYCPS families. Hello! does not replace official translation of critical communications or interpreters for scheduled meetings; to request these services, please speak with your school.
